Geography

Belgium benefits from a privileged geographical situation right in the middle of Western Europe; Small country 30 528 km2 (6% of the surface of France), Belgium has borders with the Netherlands in the North, with Germany and Luxembourg in the East and with France in the south. In the Weqt, the North Sea lines the coasts on 66 km.

Belgium has a network of communications and means of transport which is of a great quality, with a very dense highway network (1690 km) in particular.

 

Traditionally Belgium is opended to the outside world, what explain the importance of Antwerp's port, the seconnd European port after Rotterdam and in front of Marseille.

Population

On April  2011, Belgium had 11.006.351 inhabitants (346 inhabitants per km². They are divided intro three regions: 58% in Flandes (44% of the territory), 33% in Wallonia (55% of the territory) and 9% in Brussels-Capital (1% of the territory).

We coutn 932.161 foreigners in Belgium (Italians, Moroccans, French, etc.). It's 9% of the whole population (5% Flander's population, 9% of the Wallonia's population and 28% of Brussels-Capital's population).
