Entrance's Formalities

The nationals of the European Union can freely establish themselves in Belgium, under the condition that they justify sufficient incomes.

1. Formalities to accomplish with your commune in Belgium: 

The foreigners staying more than three months in Belgium are considered as "resident". They are also subjected to authorizations, which require various formalities, for the resident himself, on one hand, for his joint and/or his children on the other hand.

You need:

• to have a valid passport or an identity card of the country of origin;

• to be registered, in person, in the eight working days from the entry in the Kingdom, in the administration of the ccommune, where you want to live. For this, three photos ID are required and the payment of a modest tax (from 5 to 20€);

• show your means of subistence (a certificate of employment or ressources' justification);

• a domiciliation certificate: a lease or a title deed.

At the time of registration, the commune issues a certificate (a residence temporary permit) valid for five months. If you stay at least one year, the administration of the commune enters a domiciliation request besides. if it is accepted, the commune issues a residence permit valid for five years and notes downn the foreigner in the register of population.

 

Family

Some members of the family who live with the resident benefit from the same simplified procedure, whatever the nationality. Without counting  the passport or the identity card, the interested parties have to provide the documents which prove their relationships or marriah-ge and, according to the case, their quality of dependent.

WATCH OUT:

The residence permit doesn't constitute a travel document. All change of address has be indicated within eight days.

2. For the French nationals in Belgium: the Consulate

 

The French nationals living in Belgium are encouraged to make themselves known of their consulate, where they can ask for their registration, it's a no compulsory formality but it's vivaciously advised.

 

The formalities usually executed in the French town halls can be done in the consulate: civil status, passports and identity card, elections, certified copy of the original of French administrative documents, etc
